5 to watch: Boys basketball
Huntley, senior, forward
Egekeze grew 2 inches to 6-foot-8 and starts this season healthy after missing half of last season following surgery for patellar tendinitis. He averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots for the Red Raiders last season.
Cary-Grove, junior, guard
Gregoire (6-3) handled a lot of the point guard duties and led the Trojans in scoring last season as a sophomore. He scored 11.5 points a game, hit 41.4 percent on 3-pointers and was second in the area at 83.9 percent on free throws.
Jacobs, junior, guard
Orange (6-0) averaged 7.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists a game for the Golden Eagles, while playing point guard as a sophomore. He is a quick guard who also can score and will be relied on much more this season to lead the team.
Crystal Lake South, senior, forward
Rogers (6-2) is the area’s leading returning scorer at 15.7 points a game. He did his best work driving to the basket to score, where he was very tough to stop. Opponents will be looking for ways to stop him from doing that again.
Woodstock, senior, center
Stoneking (6-7) was a force inside as the Blue Streaks notched their first winning record since 2001. He scored 9.0 points a game, averaged 8.3 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots a game.
