Algonquin man pleads guilty to child porn

ROCKFORD – An Algonquin man pleaded guilty in federal court to charges that he possessed child pornography that had crossed state lines.

John Carlson, 38, admitted that in August 2011, he possessed images of children engaged in sexually explicit acts.

His change of plea was accepted Tuesday by U.S. District Court Judge Philip Reinhard.

Carlson could be sentenced up to 10 years in federal prison. A sentencing hearing has been set for 11 a.m. on May 9.

He was arrested in August 2012, with another man, Jason Nicoson, 34, of Roscoe. Nicoson was indicted on the same charges in a separate case. In May, Nicoson pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing child pornography. He will be sentenced Dec. 20.

The Algonquin Police Department, Illinois State Police and Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce assisted with the investigations.
