To the Editor:
I am sorry that Angel R. Llavona (Nov. 19, It’s Your Write) does not realize that Bishop Malloy is showing “true leadership and humility” to the Lord Jesus Christ, who he vowed to serve when he became a priest. You can belong to any Christian denomination and not be a true follower of Christ. The Bible is the guide for those who believe, and in the Book of Acts, St. Peter and other apostles said, “We must obey God rather than men ...” and went on to explain the Gospel to these people who persecuted them.
Bishop Malloy is obeying God when he states that the Illinois General Assembly, by voting to legalize same-sex marriage, is against his belief. He is not excluding “our homosexual brothers and sisters,” who like all believers are saint and sinner, saved and still not perfect, at the same time.
Christians are not called to imitate Pope Francis or any man. We are called to imitate Christ. The Bible tells us how to do just that. We learned that Rome and other civilizations fell when they went against following God’s plan. Bishop Malloy is brave to stand on God’s word. I pray that all the Christian leaders stand on God’s word and obey Him, not fear man.
P.S. I’m not a Catholic, but I am a believer.
