McHenry soccer's Morales, Senn-Raemont to stay in-state
There were times when Alexis Morales and Avalon Senn-Raemont, soccer teammates at McHenry High School and with the Crystal Lake Force, thought they might remain on the same college team.
Loyola University and Western Illinois University recruited both players, although each school wound up with one. Senn-Raemont, a forward, will sign with Loyola in February and Morales, a center midfielder, will sign with Western.
Both players said Force coach Diego Cevallos was instrumental in their recruitment by getting college coaches to come to Force workouts or games.
“I wasn’t looking at Western, but Diego had them come out to out State Cup games,” said Morales, who now plays club soccer with Chicago Magic. “Their coach emailed me and wanted me to come for a visit. We started talking and the offered.”
Both Morales and Senn-Raemont made their commitments over the summer.
“Western did a camp for our Force team,” Morales said. “[Western head coach] Ted [Flogaites] is a funny guy. When you get a good feeling for a coach, you like them.”
Senn-Raemont liked Western, but was more drawn to Loyola and Ramblers coach Barry Bimbi’s program.
“I liked the city and thought it would be good for me,” Senn-Raemont said. “My parents [Vicki and Craig] are very happy about it. Loyola just felt right for me.”
As it turns out, Morales and Senn-Raemont will get to play each other next year. Western and Loyola tied, 1-1, this season and are scheduled to play again in 2014.
