First Team

Luke Beattie, Woodstock, Sophomore

Beattie made himself known right away with a third-place finish in the McHenry County meet and ran well consistently all season. He was eighth in the Fox Valley Conference meet and finished 21st in the Class 2A State Meet to earn All-State honors.

Matt Johnson, Jacobs, Senior

Johnson finished fourth in the FVC meet and led the Golden Eagles to a repeat FVC Valley Division dual meet championship. Johnson was second in the Class 3A Hononegah Regional, 12th in the Waubonsie Valley Sectional and took 65th at the state meet.

Ryan Pitner, Crystal Lake Central, Senior

Pitner was outstanding all season, running behind McHenry’s Jesse Reiser in many local races. He was second in the FVC meet, then won the Class 2A Burlington Central Regional and won the Belvidere Sectional. Pitner finished fifth in the state meet.

Jesse Reiser, McHenry, Junior

The Northwest Herald Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year was runner-up at the Class 3A State Meet. Reiser lost to only twice all season – to York’s Alex Bashqawi at the Palatine Invitational and to O’Fallon’s Patrick Perrier in the state meet.

Keagan Smith, Huntley, Sophomore

Smith seemed to get better each race through the season, culminating with a 16th-place finish in the Class 3A State Meet. He finished third in the FVC Meet, won the Hononegah Regional and took fourth in the Waubonsie Valley Sectional.
