MARENGO - Two businesses who sell tobacco products recently failed a compliance check by the Marengo Police Department, according to a news release.

A citywide compliance check of 12 businesses found Vidiot’s Liquor, 117 S. State Street, and Road Ranger Gas Station, 1075 E. Grant Highway, in violation.

The clerks who sold the tobacco were cited under the local ordinance for unlawful sale of tobacco product to a minor. This carries a fine of up to $250, according to the Marengo Police Department.

Compliance checks are conducted through a grant from the Illinois Liquor Commission's "Kids Can't Buy 'Em Here" program.
