Checkout kindness

To the Editor:

Call it pay-it-forward or the spirit of Christmas giving, but I wish to publicly thank the very generous young man I encountered in the Algonquin Walmart on Nov. 21.

I had purchased a turkey breast and a few fixings to the tune of about $26. While searching for a penny to avoid more change, this young man jumped forward with his credit card and said. “Let me pay for your groceries today.”

Both the clerk and I stood there dumbfounded, but I want to say how grateful I was and what a boost to my faith in mankind it was.

I hope I can do the same for someone else someday. Thanks, young Samaritan.
