Sugar Buzz in McHenry to close at end of year

Published: Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 6:15 p.m. CST

McHENRY – Sugar Buzz Cupcakes and Coffee, which opened in McHenry in 2012, plans to close at end of the month, citing the weak economy.

Owners Mike and Anisa Cichon told the Northwest Herald in April that they hoped Sugar Buzz, 2210 W. Route 120, McHenry, would turn a profit this year after staying afloat in 2012.

“We started Sugar Buzz to give our family a bright future, but with the current economy, we just couldn’t get to where we needed to be to make it worth being away from our children so much,” said an announcement posted on the company’s Facebook page Monday.

The announcement said Sugar Buzz would “do our best to keep your favorites in stock until the end, but will be phasing out Flavors of The Week and just kind of baking day to day soon.”
