SPRINGFIELD — A deadline has been extended once more for some Illinois state retirees who need to submit certain health insurance documents.
The deadline has been extended twice because of the federal government shutdown this fall.
Recipients of various state health insurance programs need to provide IRS documents in order to prove that their dependents should still be eligible to receive state health insurance coverage. But the transcripts weren't being released by the IRS during the more than two-weeklong shutdown.
The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports the latest deadline was pushed from Dec. 6 until Jan. 31.
The material was initially due in October.
Anyone who doesn't submit the documentation on time, or request an extension, could lose health insurance coverage for their dependents.
