McHENRY – Police are searching for a medium-built, white male who attempted to rob the First National Bank of McHenry along Route 31 early Tuesday afternoon.

McHenry police said the male, between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11, wore dark blue or black pants, a black jacket with a white or gray hooded sweatshirt underneath, a black hat, white shoes, sunglasses and a red bandanna over his face when he entered the bank around 12:15 p.m.

He approached the teller counter, brandished what appeared to be a handgun and left the bank without taking any money, police said in a news release.

The offender then fled from the bank, 612 S. Route 31, on foot.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

The robbery investigation is ongoing, and a suspect has yet to be identified.

Anyone with information about the incident are asked to call McHenry police’s criminal investigation division at 815-363-2599, or the anonymous tip line at 815-363-2124.
