Doesn’t add up

To the Editor:

McHenry County College must be teaching new math.

After reading the article about the flat tax levy, I must not understand this new math. If the college is collecting the same amount of money from the same amount of people, then the amount that each person pays remains the same.

I understand that declining house values will cause the rate to increase so that the final amount gets back to the final amount, but the only reason that all the individuals would pay more is if there are fewer taxpayers.

Has there been a decrease in the number of taxpayers? If so, why is the college worried about all this supposed growth?

Maybe the flat levy isn’t so flat. I guess I should go back to college and learn this new math so I can use it in my engineering work.
