Letters to the Editor

Upset with Franks

To the Editor:

Well, state Rep. Jack Franks, D-Marengo, has done it again.

First he hasn’t the courage to vote “no” on the recently passed same-sex-marriage act. If gay couples want to live together, that’s their business. Civil unions are there for them.

But same-sex marriage just further leads this great country down the road to moral decay. Thank God we have five Republican representatives in McHenry County who are not afraid to stand up and not pander to the gay community for votes.

Now Franks wants to allow teenagers to obtain a FOID card and own firearms without parental consent. His age-old argument that if you are old enough to join the armed forces you should be able to own a firearm just doesn’t fly.

There are many responsible teenagers, but there also are those who have absolutely no reason or business of having a gun.

What’s next, Rep. Franks? Lowering the drinking age from 21? Give me a break.
