Boys roundup: Huntley wrestler 3rd at Fenton tourney

The Huntley wrestling team took third place Saturday in the 10-team field at the Fenton Weiss Tournament. Lincoln-Way West won with 214 points, followed by DeKalb (207). The Red Raiders scored 186 points as they had six second-place finishers, four third-place finishers and three more in the top five.

Nick Meyer took second for Huntley at 113 pounds after losing in the championship match by a 10-5 decision. Ricky Vigil (120) took second for Huntley along with Chris Gamboa (132), Matt Kitsis (145), Dominick Swanson (220) and Mark Caridei (285).

Leyden Quadrangular: At Franklin Park, Crystal Lake South went 3-0, beating New Trier, 39-31, Buffalo Grove, 66-18, and Leyden, 58-24.

Hunter Stroh, Brian Pence, Roland Gastfield, Garrett Dziedzic, Nick Gil, Eric Barone and Casey Callahan went undefeated for the Gators.

East Troy Tournament: At East Troy, Wis, Harvard went 5-0 against teams from Wisconsin to win the tournament. The Hornets defeated Cudahy, 68-6, Whitnal, 46-20, and Kenosha Indian Trail, 56-18, to reach the championship pool. There, Harvard defeated Union Grove, 66-10, and West Allis Central, 57-20, to win the tournament.

Justin Wilcox, Anthony Luis, Christian Kramer, Zach Martin and Adam Friemund each went 5-0 for Harvard.

Metea Valley Quadrangular: At Aurora, McHenry went 3-0 at the quad, beating Niles West, 50-26, Metea Valley, 47-19, and Joliet Central, 48-21, to improve to 7-1 on the season.


Harlem Invitational: At Machesney Park, the Jacobs co-op swimming team finished second in the nine-team field with 247 points, four behind Hononegah.

Distance-swimmer Alex Reinbrecht won all four of his events: two relays and two individuals. The senior won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.64, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He also won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.77 as well as swimming a leg on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.


IC Catholic Invitational: At Elmhurst, Marengo finished second with 5,472 pins, while Huntley (5,303) took eighth in the 13-team tournament. St. Charles North won with 5,803.

Marengo's Jake Barton had the highest series of the tournament with a 716 and was the only bowler with a 700 series. Kyle Alt (609) finished sixth.

Jake Manczko finished fourth with a 620 series for Huntley, and teammate Brad Szekeres (609) took seventh.


Wauconda 51, Woodstock 46: At Wauconda, Damian Stoneking scored a team-high 12 points for the Blue Streaks, and Alex Ferguson added 10 in the nonconference loss.
