Mom charged with obstruction after girl's death

EFFINGHAM — The mother of a 7-year-old Illinois girl who authorities say was stabbed to death by her uncle is facing a misdemeanor in the case.

Willow Long's mother, Ciara DeRyke, was arrested Monday in Effingham. She's charged with obstruction related to the investigation of her daughter's September slaying.

The 26-year-old is being held on $75,000 bond and is set to appear in court Tuesday.

Investigators say DeRyke lied to police, telling them she'd seen Long even though the girl was already dead.

DeRyke's 22-year-old brother Justin is being held on $5 million bond for the Watson girl's death.

Investigators say Justin DeRyke said he killed his niece to "put her out of her misery" after she fell and pierced her neck.

It wasn't clear if Ciara DeRyke had a lawyer.
