Shocking failure

To the Editor:

The Northwest Herald recently printed a letter from Crystal Lake resident Norman Jones (Nov. 22), who complained that state Rep. Jack Franks had failed to assist him with resolving a personal grievance against a former employer. That this letter was included in your publication is a shocking failure of editorial due diligence.

A cursory search shows that Mr. Jones has written at least three almost identical letters to the editor during recent years, similarly impugning other elected officials from McHenry County, and that every legal complaint filed by Mr. Jones against his former employers has been dismissed. Rep. Franks and Mr. Jones’ brother, former state Sen. Wendell Jones, have both publicly advised Mr. Jones that his grievances are of a personal nature. Additionally, given that he lives in Crystal Lake, Mr. Jones has never even been a constituent of Rep. Franks.

Mr. Jones is obviously upset with the results, but his anger at Rep. Franks is clearly misplaced. The Northwest Herald’s editorial board did its readers a disservice by printing spurious, unfounded allegations written by a litigious, malcontented individual who is not even one of Franks’ constituents. Your readers deserve better.
