BROOKPORT — Residents of a small southern Illinois community that's still recovering from last month's deadly tornadoes say the wintry weather is slowing down their rebuilding efforts.
WSIL-TV reports the ice and snow in Brookport is causing problems in the Ohio River city of about 1,000 residents. Many homes there are still heavily damaged or destroyed from the Nov. 17 tornado — one of about two dozen twisters that rolled across Illinois that day.
Some homes still have holes in their roofs and windows and residents say they can't rebuild because the ground is frozen.
David Wiley says it will now take several weeks to bring in a mobile home for his sister to replace the one destroyed by the storm. He says the process is "at a standstill."
