SAN JOSE, Ill.  — A driver was airlifted to a Peoria hospital after slamming into a central Illinois school bus carrying more than two dozen children.

Authorities say the 28-year-old was in critical condition after Thursday afternoon's crash near the central Illinois community of San Jose.

The car was wedged under the rear of the bus, which had stopped to drop off children.

Police said none of the 25 children on board the bus, who ranged in age from 5 to 18, were hurt.

Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.

San Jose is about 27 miles south of Peoria.
