BLOOMINGTON  — Parts of Illinois are bracing for wintry weather.

The National Weather Service says some parts of central and northern Illinois could get up to six inches of snow before a strong storm system moves out of the area on Saturday evening.

A Winter Weather Advisory is set to take effect in central Illinois starting at 3 p.m. Friday.

Forecasters say the storm is expected to start with a mixture of rain and sleet before switching over to snow in time for the evening rush in the area. Southeastern Illinois may get a smaller accumulation. The Chicago area is expected to get between two and four inches.

In northern Illinois, some areas could get half an inch of snow an area during the height of the bad weather.
