Allergic to facts

To the Editor

Tom Ganka’s diatribe about me and the Northwest Herald (“Shocking failure,” Dec. 11) needs clarification. He called it a “shocking failure” that the Northwest Herald printed my comments about Rep. Jack Franks regarding his failure to investigate union corruption. I said nothing about Franks not “assisting me with resolving a personal grievance against a former employer.”

Mr. Ganka commented that I have been “impugning elected officials from McHenry County.” Sorry, I believe it is my civic duty to root out corruption. Mr. Ganka commented about a complaint I filed against my employer. He said, “Every legal complaint filed by Mr. Jones against his former employer has been dismissed. Rep. Franks and Mr. Jones’ brother, former state Sen. Wendell Jones, have publicly advised Mr. Jones that his grievances are of a personal nature.” My brother and Rep. Franks never publicly advised me my charges were personal.

The facts Mr. Ganka seems allergic to are that federal judge James Alesia ruled my employer complaint “meritorious.” I received a settlement stemming from those charges. Under federal law, the teachers union I belonged to should have backed me. My complaint to Rep. Franks focused on how unions around the state are not providing fair representation to members and how this keeps union coffers healthy.

The Northwest Herald had every right to print my remarks about Rep. Franks because this newspaper tries to hold public officials accountable.

Ignorance is curable.
