Two taken to the hospital after car accident in Algonquin
ALGONQUIN – A man had to be extricated from his car Wednesday after a two-vehicle accident in Algonquin, according to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District.
Authorities were called to the intersection of South Randall Road and Corporate Parkway around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday for a report of an accident with injuries, fire officials said. Emergency crews arrived to find a pregnant woman lying next to her vehicle and a man trapped inside a second vehicle.
A vehicle was heading south on Randall Road when the driver ran through a red light and struck a northbound SUV attempting to make a left turn on to Corporate Parkway, according to the Algonquin Police Department. The SUV attempting to turn had a green left turn arrow.
The impact of crash trapped the man inside his 1989 Eagle Talon, fire officials said. Crews removed the driver's-side door and safely removed the man from the vehicle.
The other vehicle involved was a SUV.
The pregnant woman was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin as a precaution, fire officials said. The man, who suffered a broken leg and possibly had internal injuries, was also taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital.
Neither vehicle had passengers.
