The Marian Central girls basketball team won the second-place bracket at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic Tournament. The Hurricanes defeated Wauconda, 57-43, at Richmond-Burton to take the top spot in the bracket.
Marian Central outscored Wauconda 11-4 in the third quarter to put the game away. The team displayed a well-balanced offense with four players scoring between 12 and 10 points.
Brie Baumert led the way with 12 points. Hannah Davis and Sarah Benigni each scored 11 points and Ellen Koscielniak added 10.
In other Northern Illinois Holiday Classic games Saturday:
Richmond-Burton 53, Woodstock North 45: At Woodstock, the Rockets (5-6) won the third-place bracket. Hannah Koenig led the way for R-B with 14 points. Abby Straight and Sara Swanson each added 11 points.
Haley Ahr scored 22 points for the Thunder Jenifer Crain added eight.
Woodstock 64, Johnsburg 61: At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks won the consolation game of the third-place bracket. The score was tied at 44 heading into the fourth quarter. Grace Beattie led the way for Woodstock with 18 points, and Brecken Overly added 13.
The Skyhawks were led by a 28-point performance by Kayla Toussaint. Kayla Poczkalski added nine points for Johnsburg.
McHenry 48, Lakes 44: At Richmond, the Warriors outscored Lakes 18-6 in the third quarter to turn an eight-point deficit into a four-point win in the consolation game of the second-place bracket. McHenry was led by Katlyn Sena’s 18 points. Mckayla Snedeker added 13.
Round Lake 45, Marengo 39: At McHenry, the Indians lost in the title game of the fourth-place bracket. Rachel Tautges led Marengo with 12 points. Kassidy Grimscheid scored 11 points and Taylor Carlson added eight.
Marengo also played its suspended game from Friday against Rockford Jefferson, winning 44-38. The Indians were led by Lynsey Hoeske with 15 points and Nicole Johnston with 12.
McHenry Quadrangular: At McHenry, the host Warriors moved to 10-2 on the season with a split at the quad. McHenry defeated Lake Zurich, 57-16, but lost to Plainfield Central, 35-27.
Britches Sikula finished 2-0 Saturday by winning both of his matches via pin.
Rockford East Tournament: At Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, Marengo placed eighth in the 24-team field, and Huntley finished 15th, followed by Johnsburg (16th) and Woodstock co-op (19th).
Jake Johnston led the Indians with a five-game score of 1,061 while Jake Barton (1,048) and Kyle Alt (1,046) each scored more than 1,000.
Rockford East Tournament: At Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, Marengo placed sixth and Woodstock co-op was ninth, Huntley was 10th and Johnsburg 12th in the 13-team invitational.
Marengo was led by Dominique Bailey, who bowled a 920 over five games and finished 15th overall. Teammate Caitlyn Nakoneczny had a 907.
Woodstock co-op's Kasia Mucha had the fourth-highest game with a 253.
