CHICAGO – Authorities said an 11-year-old Chicago boy on his way to get a Christmas haircut with family members is dead after a carjacked vehicle being pursued by police crashed into the family’s car.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Sunday that Donovan Anthony Turnage was a fifth grader.

Turnage, his father and brother were on their way to get haircuts Saturday. Police allege officers on patrol saw an armed carjacking and drove after the car, which crashed into the family’s vehicle.

Authorities said the carjacker allegedly stole another vehicle and got away.

Chicago police spokesman Adam Collins said the police chase is under review, which is standard procedure.

Turner’s mother Annette Turnage said her son loved football and video games and had a pet bird and pet turtle.
