CHICAGO – Authorities said suspects are in custody in connection with the shooting death of an Illinois sheriff’s investigator who was trying to break up an armed robbery outside a family Christmas party.
The Cook County sheriff’s office confirmed Sunday that suspects were in custody. No charges have yet been filed.
Fifty-year-old Cuauhtemoc Estrada is being remembered as “beautiful person” who liked to organize family gatherings and helped start a festival to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.
He died Friday night. Sheriff’s officials said the officer was shot when trying to intervene in the robbery outside a VFW hall in Bellwood.
