Kirk on wrong side

Published: Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

Can a local newspaper be of any help? Let’s try.

We should be backing the guys who are trying to prevent a war with Iran rather than the senators who are furiously trying to create a strategy to promote new sanctions even when this will mean an end to the nuclear freeze agreement an international body has achieved.

Again, our own Mark Kirk is on the wrong side. The smart plan would be to continue with the agreed halt to Iran’s nuclear work, and if there is a misstep on the side of Iran, we can still develop new sanctions.

It is an ominous sign for our elected officials to sidestep the plans in motion, just to promote their own agenda. We should not be bending to pressure from the Israeli government if it jeopardizes an international plan that is working.
