Hinkle Classic roundup: CL South tops South Elgin on Tyler Hankins' buzzer beater

ALGONQUIN – South Elgin’s Tyler Hankins hit a short jumper as time expired to lift the Storm over Crystal Lake South, 60-59, Friday in Jacobs’ Hinkle Holiday Classic at the Eagles’ Nest.

The victory puts South Elgin into the Consolation A championship game against Cary-Grove.

South (10-2) was led by forward Austin Rogers with 30 points.

Hankins, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, scored 10 points for the Storm. Matt Smith led South Elgin with 16 points, and Justin Howard added 13.

Consolation B

Prairie Ridge 60, Bartlett 39: The Wolves scord 41 points in the second half to break open a tied score and advance to the Consolation B final game.

Michael Bradshaw scored 18 to lead Prairie Ridge (7-5), and Steven Ticknor added 14.

Jefferson 98, Tilden 61: M.L. Moore scored 33 points to lead the J-Hawks past the Blue Devils and into the Consolation B championship game.

Consolation C

Johnsburg 80, CL Central 69: Steve Dixon scored 32 points to lead the Skyhawks (2-10) to their first victory of the tournament. It was Dixon’s second 30-plus-point game of the tournament.

Collin Ridout and Bailey Stefka each added 10 points for Johnsburg.

Central was led by Derek Olson and Jack Ortner with 12 points each. Cavanagh Murphy scored 10 for the Tigers (0-13). Central assistant coach Ben Thomas took over for the game as head coach Rich Czeslawski was with his wife Molly, who gave birth to their second child, daughter Jordan Sloan, on Friday.

Barrington 65, Marian Central 39: Austin Madrzyk led the Broncos with 19 points in their victory over the Hurricanes (5-7).

Marian managed only two points in the first quarter and was led by Adam Pischke with nine points.
