Dade County Coroner Johnny Gray in Georgia confirms James Drozdz of Hamilton, Ill., was killed Saturday night. Drozdz had been Hancock County state's attorney in Illinois since 2004.

Gray said Monday that an autopsy was performed Sunday and results were pending the outcome of toxicology tests.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports (http://bit.ly/1cPGrDa ) Drozdz was 53. He had 30 years of experience in the criminal justice system.

Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger tells the newspaper Drozdz worked for Dot Foods and was driving truck for the company.

Gray says that Drozdz attempted turn onto an entrance ramp, but the vehicle left the road and struck an embankment.

Bentzinger says Drozdz had a dedicated career.
