To the Editor:

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program in McHenry County is comprised of wonderful volunteers who spend their time helping our community.

As a marketing representative for Heartland Blood Centers, we supply 100 percent of the blood products to Centegra hospitals, along with 47 other area hospitals, and our RSVP volunteers help us at many of our blood drives.

They donate their time to work at the registration tables, checking in donors, handing out registration tablets and having wonderful conversations with donors waiting to give blood. The friendly, outgoing warmth of each volunteer has been so appreciated by the staff at each drive that they assist.

Kudos to the awesome volunteers who spent many hours in 2013 helping donors at our blood drives. Each blood donation saves three lives so that’s what volunteers are doing – helping us by donating their time to save lives.

Thanks from all of us at Heartland Blood Centers. You certainly make a difference.
