Sorry state of finances

Published: Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

In the Another View editorial published Thursday, it was mentioned that a contract with Maximus to weed out ineligible recipients of Medicaid was cancelled because of union pressure.

The union employees of the Department of Healthcare and Family Services filed a lawsuit, saying the contractor was improperly hired and that the state should rely on state employees to conduct the review. Duh, that is the job of those employees. They were not doing the job they were hired and paid to do.

Either the union people should do their job, become unemployed because they’re not performing their responsibilities, or let an outside firm do the job.

An example of one reason the state is in such a sorry state of finances.
