EAST PEORIA (AP) — An elderly man who was injured in a November tornado in the north-central Illinois community of Washington has died.

Tazewell County Coroner James Jeff Baldi says 84-year-old Charles Koonce died Thursday at a nursing home in East Peoria.

The coroner says Koonce's injuries from the tornado weren't the primary cause of Koonce's death and he had been ill before the storm. But the coroner says the tornado that destroyed Koonce's home left him with broken bones that "definitely compromised his status."

The deaths of seven people have been tied to the two dozen tornadoes that hit the state on Nov. 17. Neighborhoods were flattened in towns including Washington, Gifford and Brookport.

Rebuilding efforts are now underway.
