The McHenry County Board is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Mental Health Board.

A four-year term on the unpaid board is still open after a County Board committee late last year could not come to a consensus on a candidate to fill it. The term expires on Jan. 1, 2018.

The nine-member Mental Health Board primarily is tasked with maintaining a special property tax levy, which is disbursed to local social service agencies that work with the mentally and developmentally disabled. Members attend one or two monthly meetings, usually in the evening, and each serve on at least one committee.

Applications will be accepted until 2 p.m. Jan. 31. They can be downloaded from the county’s website at www.co.mchenry.il.us, or picked up at the County Board office, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.

Mental Health Board members cannot be an employee of the Illinois Department of Human Services or a board member or employee of any agency under contract to the board.

A list of these agencies can be found in the board’s 2012 annual report on the board’s website at www.mc708.org.
