McHENRY – Four people were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening after a head-on collision Wednesday morning.

The injured adults were not named but were conscious when transported to Centegra Hospital - McHenry, fire officials said.

The crash closed the northbound lane of Richmond road for about a 1/2 hour as emergency crews worked the scene, McHenry Township Fire Battalion Chief Joe Krueger said.

Crews were dispatched at 11:02 a.m. just north of McCullom Lake Road on Richmond Road. A male driver of a southbound 2002 Buick crossed into northbound lanes while passing through the intersection, according to a release from the McHenry Police Department.

The Buick struck a 2013 Ford driven by a female. Each car had one passenger. Names are being withheld for the time being, the release said.

The driver of the Buick will be cited after his release from the hospital, the release said.

The scene was cleared by 11:30 a.m.

Damage to one vehicle required those inside to be extricated, Krueger said.

"There was significant damage to both cars, and airbag deployment in both," he said.
