To the Editor:

The Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club would like to give a big thank you to the participants, supporters and volunteers at our second annual Kiwanis Santa Run for Kids event.

The event grew from over 700 participants in 2012 to over 950 in 2013. It was quite a sight, watching hundreds of Santa’s running down Williams Street and through parts of Crystal Lake. The Santas were followed by walkers and runners in reindeer antlers. There were dogs dressed up in holiday decorations, strollers full of excited children, and even a sleigh and a horse joining in on the fun.

We are excited for the third annual Santa Run on Dec. 7. We are planning on over 1,000 participants. It is a great way to celebrate the season with a fun and family friendly activity supporting the community. The profits will be shared with some great local organizations. The nonprofits that partnered with us and will receive a part of the profits include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Girls on the Run NWIL, CASA, The Light Center/Main Stay and Turning Point.

The Kiwanis Club hopes to see you at one of our upcoming events or on the list of volunteers, participants, donors, or, better yet, a member. You can find more information at www.kiwaniscrystallake.com.

In the meantime, watch for information on our fifth annual St Baldrick’s event in March.  We will be shaving heads to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer research.
