Prep Roundup: Hampshire boys beat Grayslake North
The Hampshire boys basketball team shot 11 of 12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter Friday against Grayslake North to turn a fourth-quarter deficit into a 64-60 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win in Grayslake.
The Whip-Purs (6-9 overall, 2-1 FVC Fox), trailed 51-49 heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored Grayslake North 15-9 in the final frame for the win.
Ryan Cork and Matthew Bridges each scored 21 points to lead Hampshire. Cork converted four 3-pointers and Drew Doran added nine.
Huntley 55, Dundee-Crown 39: At Carpentersville, Amanze Egekeze scored 16 points to lead the Red Raiders (9-4, 2-0) to an FVC Valley Division win. Zach Gorney scored 15 points and Riley Wicks added 10 for Huntley.
Kiwaun Seals led D-C (4-8, 0-2) with 12 points.
St. Edward 56, Marian Central 48: At Elgin, the Hurricanes (7-9, 2-2) lost in Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division play. St. Edward won after outscoring Marian Central 24-12 in the fourth quarter. Adam Pischke led Marian with 10 points and Matthew Ricchiuto added eight.
Harvard 73, North Boone 69: At Harvard, the Hornets (2-8, 1-2) were led by Justin Nolen’s 20 points in the Big Northern Conference East Division win. Fernando Carrera and Tate Miller each added 16 points for Harvard.
Marengo 62, Rockford Christian 45: At Marengo, the Indians (8-5, 1-1) won in BNC East play. Marengo pulled away after outscoring Rockford Christian 23-11 in the second quarter. Zach Knobloch led the team with 22 points and Adam Rogutich added 18 points and seven rebounds.
Harvest Christian 54, Alden-Hebron 42: At Hebron, the Giants (2-10) lost in Northeastern Athletic Conference play. Trevor Ball led the team with 14 points and Cody Nelson added 10.
Dundee-Crown 55, Grayslake Central 16: At Carpentersville, the Chargers won all but three matches at the FVC crossover meet.
Diamond Flynn (106 pounds), Jarrod Raap (170), Christian Brunner (182), Christian Rodriguez (195), Christian Johnson (220) and Jeremy Marshall (285) all won on pins.
Rockford Lutheran 54, Woodstock 27: At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks lost a nonconference dual. Alan Hafer (160), Ryan Plourde (170) and Gus Siebert (182) all won on pins. Nick Sundberg (152) added a 3-2 decision win.
Marian Central 37, Richmond-Burton 24: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes won seven matches to claim the nonconference victory.
Joe Herff (132), Jack McGuire (145) and Andrew Virzi (152) won on pins for Marian Central. Tom Welch (170) won a major decision, 9-0, and Aaron Kurcz (126) added a 10-3 win.
The Rockets got pinfall wins from Gavin Sutton (113), Garrett Sutton (160) and R.J. Heppner (182).
Cary-Grove 36, Jacobs 24: At Algonquin, the Trojans won at the FVC Valley dual meet. Cary-Grove picked up wins from Sean Cullen (126), John Cullen (132) and Matt Hughes (152).
Mark Mamola (195) and Beau Harrier (106) picked up pinfall wins for the Golden Eagles.
Princeton Invitational: At Princeton, Harvard finished the first day of the two-day event in 20th place with 33 points. Mark Struck (120), Sergio Jimenez (132) and Isaiah Rudd (152) picked up two victories apiece.
