Roundup: Harvard wrestling dominates Burlington Central

The Harvard wrestling team dominated in a 66-9 win over host Burlington Central Thursday night.

The Hornets (15-5) jumped out to a 38-0 lead behind big wins from Anthony Luis at 120 pounds, Sergio Jimenez (132) and Christian Kramer (145), who each won by means of fall or technical fall.

Burlington Central won two matches before the meet was over but the Hornets added more wins. Matt Wheeler won at 160 by major decision while Zach Martin (220) and Adam Friemund (285) won by fall. Harvard received five forfeits.

Grayslake Central 46, Woodstock 23: At Woodstock, Ryan Plourde (170) and Gus Siebert each won via major decision for the Blue Streaks in the loss in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play.

Nick Sundberg (152), Alan Hafer (160) and Alex Johnson earned the other wins for Woodstock by decisions.

McHenry 75, Prairie Ridge 4: At McHenry, the Warriors won 10 matches via forfeit and two others via pin from Cody Patchett and Chris Ulloa. McHenry's Cam Pait defeated the Wolves' Charley Popp, 3-1, in a battle of two ranked opponents.

Travis Piotrowski earned the only win for the Wolves at 113 pounds.


Harvard 41, Rockford Christian 39: At Rockford, Justin Nolen scored a game-high 12 points to lead Harvard in the win in Big Northern Conference East Division play.

Fernando Carrera added 10 points for the Hornets (4-10 overall, 2-2 BNC East) while Tate Miller scored seven.


Oregon 3,587, Marengo 3,035: At Town & Country Lanes in Mount Morris, Kyle Alt bowled a team-high 573 series for the Indians while teammate Jake Barton finished with a 563 series in the loss.

Dustin Termini also rolled a 500 series for Marengo with 516.


Johnsburg 2,596, Woodstock co-op 2,187: At Wayne's Lanes in Woodstock, Allison Boelter bowled a meet-high 636 series including a high game of 235 to lead Johnsburg in the win. Both Skylar Malcolm and Kaitlyn Straulin bowled a 500 series, 588 and 506 respectively, for the Skyhawks.

Sam Kunke led Woodstock co-op with a 503 series while Kasia Mucha added a high game of 189 in the loss.

Marengo 3,192, Oregon 2,941: At Town & Country Lanes in Mount Morris, five Marengo bowlers had a 500 series in the win. Dominique Bailey led the Indians with a 548 series.

Rachel Baumann rolled a 546 while Kellie Krenzelok added a 544 and Megan Anthony and Megan Hanelt each finished with a 530.


Prairie Ridge 147.8, Barrington 144.35, Carmel 140: At Barrington, Rachael Underwood won the vault with a 9.7 for Prairie Ridge in the win.

Kendall Rumford won the balance beam for the Wolves with a 9.55 while teammate Maddie Solka placed first in the floor exercise with a 9.55. 


Sterling 116, Woodstock co-op 61: At Sterling, though Woodstock co-op had just two wins, Sterling earned 13 points from diving.

Woodstock co-op won the 200-yard freestyle relay by more than two seconds in 1:45.08. Dan Jagman earned the other win for the co-op in the 50 freestyle, winning in 25.76, just three-hundredths of a second ahead of Sterling's Andrew Gray.

McHenry 85, Huntley 85: At McHenry, Ryan Czarnecki, Benjamin Cazel, John Cazel and Bryan Haage won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:31.06) for the Red Raiders to come back and tie the Warriors in an FVC dual. 

Kevin Braun, Matt Peck, Myles Lucas and Trey Schopen won the 200 medley relay (1:52.47) for McHenry.
