Wonder Lake man charged with drug offenses after traffic stop

WOODSTOCK – McHenry County sheriff’s police have charged a Wonder Lake man with several drug offenses following a Monday traffic stop.

Police said members of the Intelligence Led Policing Unit stopped a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix on Route 47 near Cooney Road when they observed the occupants making excessive movements.

Sheriff’s police then brought a K-9 unit to the scene and searched the vehicle. Police said they found illegal narcotics and arrested the backseat passenger, but released the driver and another passenger from the scene. Police said they found 2.6 grams of heroin, prescription drugs, multiple hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia. Investigators estimated the street value of the drugs at $600.

Jorge L. Gonzalez Martinez, 18, of Wonder Lake, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of hypodermic needles.

Gonzalez Martinez faces up to 15 years in prison on the most serious charges. His bond is set at $80,000. He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 4.
