TV scam

Published: Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

Please beware that there is a scam out there to remove you from your TV provider.

The person calls saying they are from your TV provider (i.e. Dish, Comcast, etc.) and they will give you a new black box and lower your monthly cost by $20. Someone can be out there the next day to do this for you. They give you an 800 number to call if you have questions. The next day, there is a subcontractor at your door. He has no ID from your provider. “I’m just a subcontractor.” We told him we’d wait for a technician to come; we’d call them.

In calling the 800 number, it’s not your provider. In calling our provider, he informed us they were going to swipe us from our provider to them.

This means you’ve broken your contract with your provider. This is costly and can lead to loads of problems.
