WOODSTOCK - Route 14 has reopened in Woodstock following a 6-car accident, but dispatchers are warning that whiteout conditions could easily cause another crash – and road closing.

The accident occurred on Route 14 at Hughes Road Thursday afternoon. The road was closed in both directions at the intersection for more than an hour as crews cleared the scene, according to McHenry County Sheriff's Dispatcher Jean Locke.

There were no injuries in the crash.

"You can't even see your hand in front of your face," Locke said of the whiteout conditions.

High winds and drifting snow have caused traffic hazards all over the county, but Route 14 between Dunham Road and Rosefarm Road has been the worst, Locke said.

Locke said there have been accidents at that intersection throughout the day, and motorists are encouraged to avoid the area or, if possible, stay inside altogether.

"If you're traveling, use extreme caution," she said.
