OAKWOOD HILLS – In an electronic newsletter to residents, Village President Melanie Funk said the village is close to running out of salt for the winter.

The extremely cold and snowy winter has led the village to use almost all of its salt for the season, Funk wrote.

"I am using every resource available to try and find more salt," Funk wrote. "If I find any, it may be weeks [until] it gets here and at a premium price."

Funk said the village will not be salting streets, except where necessary, such as at intersections and some large hills.

"We will be driving on compacted snow," Funk said.

She asked residents to use extreme caution when driving and to try to avoid hilly areas by going around the outside of town if possible.
