Roundup: Jacobs' Biondo in sixth at state bowling

Brandon Biondo of Jacobs advanced to the second day of the IHSA boys bowling state final by finishing day one in sixth place with a 1,415 score. 

Biondo was in 36th place after his first three games, needing to be among the top 30 individuals to qualify for the final day. He then bowled games of 238, 267 and 236 to jump all the way into the top 10, and a qualifying spot.

"I just tried not to think about it and tried to do whatever I could to knock down 10 pins with one ball and make all my spares," Biondo said. 

Biondo now finds himself 127 points back of first place, but only 35 points out of second with six more games to play Saturday at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights. 

COMPETITIVE DANCE

Dance state finals preliminaries: At U.S. Celluar Coliseum in Bloomington, Crystal Lake Central and Crystal Lake South both advanced to State's second day by finishing in the top 10 in Class 2A. The Tigers finished in seventh place with a score of 85.58 and the Gators were ninth with an 84.52. Both team will now compete for the state championship on Saturday. 

Cary-Grove and Prairie Ridge missed the top 10 in Class 2A. The Trojans were 16th with an 83.12, and the Wolves ended the day in 19th with a 79.80. 

In Class 3A, Huntley and Jacobs failed to qualify for the second day. Jacobs finished in 20th with an 83.24 and Huntley was 22nd with an 82.56. 

Johnsburg finished 25th in Class 1A with a 75.00 and failed to qualify. 

GIRLS BOWLING

FVC Tournament: At Raymond's Bowl in Johnsburg, Jacobs won the tournament with a final score of 5,270. Mariclare Daniels bowled a 1,140 series to lead the Golden Eagles. 

Dundee-Crown was second with a 5,182, and led by Amanda Smith's 1,121 series. McHenry was third with 5,137 and led by the individual champion Cheyenne Watts with a 1,251 series. 

Johnsburg finished in fifth place with a score of 4,908 and were led by Erika Lara's 1,096. Woodstock and Huntley finished in seventh and eighth with 4,367 and 4,176 respectively. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hampshire 52, Woodstock North 39: At Woodstock, Sara Finn scored 14 points and Emma Benoit added 12 to lead the Whip-Purs to the FVC Fox Division win. 

The Thunder were led by 11 points from Jenifer Crain and Haley Ahr added nine. 

Crystal Lake South 57, Jacobs 51: At Algonquin, the Gators got the win in FVC Valley Division play. Chanel Fanter scored 19 points and Kianna Clark added 16 for Crystal Lake South. 

Teaghan Richman led the Golden Eagles with 11 and Carly Sidor and Nita Williams each added nine. 

Woodstock 54, Johnsburg 46: At Woodstock, Selena Juarez scored 14 points to lead the Blue Streaks to victory in FVC Fox Division play. Dakota Brand added 12 for Woodstock. 

Trace Chase led the Skyhawks with 15 points and Kayla Toussaint added 14. 

Burlington Central 53, Richmond-Burton 24: At Richmond, the Rockets (9-9, 2-4 BNC East) fell in BNC East Division play. Abby Straight scored nine points and Hali Hoglund added six. 

BOYS SWIMMING

Cary-Grove 99, Woodstock co-op 61: At Woodstock, Scott Eibel won both the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.36) and the 200 IM (2:16.69) to lead the Trojans.

Woodstock was led by wins for Liam DeWane in the 500 free (5:39.74) and Dan Jagman in the 50 free (24.84).
