Fire damages Crystal Lake home

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Crystal Lake home was damaged Monday after a fire started on the second floor.

Around 11:30 a.m. firefighters were called to a vacant home at 350 Elmwood Ave., in Crystal Lake after smoke was reportedly seen coming from the house.

The fire was contained to the upstairs bathroom and was extinguished in 10 minutes, according to Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Battalion Chief William Whyte. The damage was estimated at $30,000 according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.

No one was living in the home, Whyte said, and a for sale sign was in the front yard.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
