Baxter & Woodman earns magazine honor

CRYSTAL LAKE – Baxter & Woodman Inc. Consulting Engineers was named for the fifth year in a row as one of the Top 50 trenchless technology design firms in the country by Trenchless Technology magazine.

Trenchless construction is a growing facet of engineering that offers alternatives to open-cut methods of pipe installation or repair of aging water and sewer mains. Trenchless alternatives reduce surface disruptions, increase safety, is faster and quieter than open-cut methods, use less fuel, lessen the hauling of materials, and minimize tree damage.

“Trenchless projects promote sustainability and preserve the environment while improving infrastructure systems,” said Sean O’Dell, Baxter & Woodman’s trenchless advocate.  

Fast-tracked and completed within two weeks, the firm provided water main rehabilitation using slip-lining under Interstate 290 in Cook County. Using cured in place lining to rehabilitate aging water mains in a residential area saved another municipality more than $400,000 in construction costs, according to a news release. 

Baxter & Woodman Inc. is an employee-owned firm that provides planning, design, construction and technology services for water, wastewater, stormwater and transportation facilities for municipalities, counties and state agencies.
