Wisconsin portion of Route 12 now open to regular traffic

ELKHORN, Wis. – After closing Route 12 north of the Wisconsin city of Elkhorn for several hours, the road is now open to regular traffic, according to the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.

Semi-trucks will have to continue to use alternative routes.

For those headed north, the sheriff's office is recommending they take Interstate 43 north, exiting at Highway 20 and taking that back to Route 12 where it intersects with highways 67 and 20.

The closure was caused by car hitting a pole, leaving the pole and wires across the highway, the release said.

No injuries have been reported, but some residences and businesses near the crash have lost electricity.
