CRYSTAL LAKE – Super Bowl weekend was not so super for some motorists who were issued tickets as part of the Crystal Lake Police Department's crackdown.

The Crystal Lake Police Department – one of more than 200 in Illinois to participate in the increased traffic enforcement campaign over Super Bowl weekend – announced Thursday 81 citations were issued during the three-day period.

Between Jan. 31 and Feb. 2, the department issued 17 seat belt citations; 25 citations for using phones while driving; seven tickets for uninsured motorists; 12 speeding tickets; and 20 citations for other equipment and moving violations.

No drunk driving citations were reported in the department's press release.

The campaign was federally funded through the state's Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket initiatives. The campaign allowed Crystal Lake police officers to add 51 patrol hours for enforcement.
