Paid dues

To the Editor:

I am writing because I saw the story in the Jan. 31 edition about state Rep. Jack Franks’ new bill to eliminate the fees on hunting and fishing licenses for people over the age of 75.

I think it is a great idea, and agree with Franks that we seniors have paid our dues. The state of Illinois misses almost no opportunity to tax or apply fees to residents, and it is refreshing to see a political leader work as hard as Jack does to lessen the financial burden that the state places on all of us, especially senior citizens.

I also think it bears highlighting that the idea for this bill came from one of us, his constituents. Franks’ office is always extremely helpful and responsive whenever I have a question or need assistance, and whenever I see Jack, he is always happy to listen to my thoughts about how the state could work better on our behalf.

I cannot think of another political leader that is so accessible, and I think this bill is another an example of the great work he does on behalf of McHenry County.
