District 46 hires firm for superintendent search

PRAIRIE GROVE – The search for a new superintendent is on.

The School District 46 Board hired School Exec Connect, one of two firms it vetted, to handle the candidate search process at its meeting Tuesday evening.

The firm will be paid an inclusive consulting fee of $15,500 plus expenses, which are not to exceed $1,200, according to the approved proposal.

The selected firm has a more “proactive versus a reactive approach,” board President Margaret Ponga said.

The firm will go out and search for candidates, not just post the job listing and vet the candidates that apply.

The firm will be assisting the district in finding a replacement for Superintendent Lynette Zimmer, who announced her resignation in December. Zimmer, who is in her fourth year as the district’s superintendent, will leave at the end of the fiscal year for Lake Villa District 41.

Residents, parents, school board members and staff will be interviewed through an online survey and focus groups to develop an idea of qualities and skills the district’s next superintendent should have, according to the firm’s proposal.

Information about community input will be made available through communication with parents and at www.dist46.org – the district’s website. Those looking to volunteer to be in a focus group can call the district at 815-459-3023.

The tentative calendar has the board conducting interviews, narrowing the field and ultimately picking a candidate in March and April, according to the proposal. The new superintendent’s contract would then start July 1.
