Three local agencies are being recognized for their work in clearing snow from roads.

Lake in the Hills, Algonquin and the McHenry County Highway Department have received the 2013 Safe and Sustainable Snowfighting award from the Salt Institute for excellence in environmental consciousness and effective management in the storage of winter road salt, according to a news release.

Ninety agencies in the U.S. and Canada received the recognition. Ten of those agencies are in Illinois.

“The village’s snowplow drivers make exceptional efforts towards snowfighting and road safety in support of the village residents," said Lake in the Hills Public Works Director Fred Mullard in a news release. "This award is a well-deserved recognition of those efforts.”
