WONDER LAKE - A structure fire in Wonder Lake early Friday morning left a home uninhabitable and displaced nine people.

Around 2:30 a.m., Wonder Lake firefighters responded to the fire in the 8900 block of Ramble Road. Two residents suffered smoke inhalation injuries, and one firefighter suffered a minor injury, but no one was transported to the hospital, according to Wonder Lake Fire Lt. John Bruchsaler.

A dog perished in the blaze, but another dog and a salamander survived, Bruchsaler said.

The fire started in the family room of the home, he said. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

The blaze caused approximately $80,000 in damages and displaced the nine residents, which included family and extended family, Bruchsaler said.

The fire caused significant damage to the inside and outside of the home and was under control in 30 minutes.

Departments from McHenry, Woodstock and Richmond assisted at the scene. Crystal Lake, Spring Grove and Hebron assisted with change of quarters.
