Will miss history column

To the Editor:

I was on vacation in Cancun a few weeks ago, reading the Northwest Herald online, when I read that the editor of the history column that appeared weekly had passed away.

The column will be surely missed by me. I love history.

In one of Joseph Morton’s columns this past year, I learned why a certain point in Rhode Island, off Narragansett Bay, was named as such. It was Gaspee Plateau, and as a child I lived in Warwick, near Gaspee Plateau. I learned that a ship named The Gaspee had gone down there. Until his column, I never knew why it was called that.

So, from a 19-year Crystal Lake resident, who has lived in Rhode Island, New York, Georgia and now Florida, I do enjoy your newspaper.

I am not returning until it is warm up here. I will miss the Assisi spring luncheon and fashion show and other events at the Raue Center, but I can run my business from down there, and the weather is much warmer.
