Aquatic center consideration

Published: Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 5:30 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

If what I gather from the rather poorly written description of the proposed annexation agreement between the village of Lake In The Hills and the Crystal Lake Park District in the Feb. 12 edition is correct, the village will kindly allow the park district to purchase the property in question for $625,000 in exchange for reduced fees for use of the proposed aquatic center.

A referendum by the park district will be needed to pay for the project, the cost of which could ultimately be in the millions of dollars. If you are wondering who will be paying for this generous agreement and you answered the taxpayers of Crystal Lake, congratulations. You may take your place at the head of the class.

I would hope the citizens of Crystal Lake, already subject to tax increases, would consider the situation very carefully before deciding whether to vote for a possible referendum.
