INDIANAPOLIS – If C.J. Fiedorowicz hits his goal for Saturday’s 40-yard dash, that could further move him up draft charts.

The Johnsburg native and former Iowa tight end addressed the news media Thursday at the NFL Combine and said he is aiming for 4.65 seconds or in the high 4.6-range for his 40 time.

Last year, Chris Gragg had the top 40 time for the tight ends at the combine with a 4.50. First-round pick Tyler Eifert ran a 4.68, Jordan Reed a 4.72 and Zach Ertz a 4.76. For an impressive blocker like Fiedorowicz to get in the 4.6 vicinity would only help his cause.

In discussing the New England Patriots' Rob Gronkowski and the importance of being a dual-threat tight end, Fiedorowicz mentioned Gronk’s wheels and how he is shooting to be in a similar mold.

“I proved a little bit at the Senior Bowl. Some of my times here ... maybe Saturday I can show them my speed,” he said.

Coming off a Senior Bowl week performance that had him named the best receiver in Mobile, Ala., Fiedorowicz now will run and do drills with the rest of the tight ends. He won’t be a first-round pick like North Carolina’s Eric Ebron or Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro, but he could get his competitive juices going watching them do drills.

“I’ve been watching a lot of theses guys throughout their college career and I’ve kind of compared myself to them,” he said. “To actually see them in person, compete with them, gives you the motivation to be at the top of the list.”

Working out at Athletes Performance Institute in San Diego, Fiedorowicz said he has been working on improving his starts and explosion to help his time Saturday. He passed his test in Mobile, and now the lights come on at Lucas Oil Stadium with every team – and viewers on NFL Network – watching Fiedorowicz continue his path to the NFL.
